Rick Bierbrauer, agricultural educator at the Bangor School District in Bangor, Wis., has received the Outstanding Early Career Teacher award from the Wisconsin Association of Agricultural Educators (WAAE). Mr. Bierbrauer was presented this award at the WAAE Professional Development Conference held virtually June 29-July 2, 2020.
The first five years of teaching are similar to a roller coaster- some amazing highs, stomach dropping falls, with a handful of crazy twists and turns throughout- but an exhilarating ride in the end upon reflection. We would like to recognize some of our early career teachers whose vision for their profession utilizes the twists, turns, surprises and joys of everyday teaching to make them outstanding in their schools.
Rick strives to create a classroom where nobody is afraid to ask questions, make mistakes, and fail- and how can we do this together. He models this philosophy in his daily life and the organizations he partners with. Rick always asks questions, problem solves and implements solutions.
When Rick started at Bangor, no agriculture classroom existed. Through his perseverance, Bangor boasts not only a physical classroom, but a 20x40 greenhouse, numerous hydroponic systems, orchard, vineyard and community garden. The creation of community partnerships with key businesses and grants financed most of these experiential learning activities. Rick developed 9 new classes, allowing the FFA to grow more than 300% and maintain this level of membership.
Mr. Bierbrauer shares his talents with WAAE as committee chair of the Instructional Kits committee, presents workshops at PDC, and currently serves as the Section 3 Vice President.

A BIG Cardinal thank you to our local Knights of Columbus, Lions, and Fire Department Family Auxiliary for their donation to our food pantry at Bangor Elementary. This will go a long way in supporting our local families!

Thankful we could host the Red Cross blood drive today at school. Awesome turnout with 83 appointments. Thank you to all who donated. #bangorpride @bangorpride

Just a note to remind students and families that healthy mouths = healthy bodies and to keep up good habits during this extra long “break”!

To the Bangor Class of 2020 and Families,
Earlier this spring we were hopeful that we could still have our in-person graduation ceremony
on August 1. We realize how important and special the graduation ceremony is for seniors and
their families. Unfortunately, due to the increase in COVID cases in the past month we are no
longer able to have the in-person graduation ceremony. We have spent time over the past
month looking at various options (outdoors, spacing, etc.) but any ceremony would still have to
fit the parameters provided by the county.
You will see a media release below from the School Districts of Bangor, Holmen, LaCrosse,
Onalaska, and West Salem. Since we are all faced with the same parameters, all of the high
schools have canceled our in-person ceremonies. We will have a virtual graduation ceremony
which will be released as soon as it can be finished. We will also look at having a drive up
diploma pickup after consulting with the health department and local police department. There
will be further information regarding this at a later date.
Rick Muellenberg
Principal, Bangor Middle/High School
La Crosse County 2020 Graduates and Families,
As many of you know, the La Crosse County Health Department currently has La Crosse
County at a Red Level (Severe Risk). We are following the recommendations of the county
closely as it pertains to our students.
As a result, the public high schools in La Crosse County regretfully must cancel our in-person
graduation ceremony plans. We know that many students, families, and school district staff
members look forward to this event each year and we have made this decision with a heavy
heart.
Principals from each public high school in La Crosse County will be in touch with families with
any other information pertaining to their school.
Sincerely,
Bangor HS, Holmen HS, La Crosse Central HS, La Crosse Logan HS,
Onalaska HS, and West Salem HS
