The 8th Grade Agriculture class recently wrapped up their unit on Agritourism and Agriculture Literacy. Agritourism is a form of tourism where visitors engage in activities related to agriculture, farming, or rural life. It usually involves farm tours, engaging activities, agricultural education, and more! Agricultural literacy is the knowledge, understanding, awareness, and appreciation of agriculture. Students had the opportunity to meet with Bret Miller, owner of Hidden Trails Corn Maze in West Salem. Bret was able to share some valuable information with students about his family owned operation including the awesome fact that their farm has been in the family for over 120 years! Hidden Trails Corn Maze has been operating since 1998, making them one of the longest operating mazes in the state. Make sure to check them out come September! Thank you Bret for taking the time to meet with us!

U.S. News & World Report Recognizes Bangor Elementary School Among the 2024 Best Elementary Schools
Washington, D.C. – December, 2023 – Bangor Elementary School has been ranked No. 179 in Wisconsin among the 2024 Best Elementary School rankings by U.S. News & World Report. The rankings include more than 79,000 public elementary and middle schools across the country. Schools are ranked at the state and district level, with Best Charter Schools and Best Magnet Schools ranked as stand-alone categories.
The ranking of 179th is the highest among all other conference schools, bordering school districts, and all La Crosse county schools with the exception of one La Crosse School District school.
Parents, educators and students can see how Bangor compares to other institutions and how the rankings are calculated on USNews.com.
“Bangor Elementary School is an incredibly special place with hard working staff and students dedicated to the academic and social emotional learning of all. The work we do as a school district is not with the goal of receiving this type of recognition, but it is appreciated when it comes our way.” David Brokopp – District Administrator.
The methodology for selection focuses on state assessments of students who were proficient or above proficient in mathematics and reading/language arts while accounting for student backgrounds, achievement in core subjects, and how well schools are educating their students. Student-teacher ratios are applied to break ties in the overall score.
“The 2024 Best Elementary and Middle Schools rankings offer a way for parents to get a snapshot of their child’s school and how well it is doing compared with other schools in their community," said LaMont Jones, managing editor for education at U.S. News. “In addition, U.S. News provides easily accessible data on student-teacher ratios, district spending, and the number of counselors a school makes available to its students.”
A plaque and banner will be placed on the elementary school this week to acknowledge this achievement. If you would like to learn more about this award or just learn more about Bangor Elementary School please feel free to reach out to School Principal, Michael Johnson or District Administrator, David Brokopp.
Congratulations to all of the staff, students, and families for helping make this recognition possible. Our success would not be possible without the continued support of our schools from our community. Thanks to all for helping make the Bangor School District a destination school district!
