Last week, 13 Bangor FCCLA students competed in the WI FCCLA Region 5 regional STAR Event competition at WTC in La Crosse. Congratulations to the following students for all their hard work over the past few weeks putting together their educational projects! Monroe Sebranek, Kilee Schuster, Callie Lictao - Professional Presentation - Effects of Diet Culture on Children Julianne Thielker and Grace Haag - Repurpose & Redesign - Towel Tote Bags Of these students, we have 11 state qualifiers - double the amount from last year! An honorable mention goes out to Sarah Adams and Rebekah Justinger, who are also competing in Chapter Website, which is an online-only event and has the chance to make it straight to Nationals. Please help us to extend a warm congratulations to all of these student leaders!

Artists from Mrs. Olson's Bangor HS Art classes and from Mrs. Dahl's Black River Falls HS Art classes did a collaboration project that is hanging at CESA 4 in West Salem for the month of Feb. The project is titled, "Hearts of Kindness". Each student in Mrs. Olson's Drawing & Art Survey class created an 8x8 painted cardboard background to exchange with a BRF student and vice versa. Students then created a heart related artwork on top of the background they received. In addition, students wrote about themselves and included a photo weaving of themselves.

Students in Ms. Beckman’s Anatomy and Physiology class created models and station cards about the parts of the Central Nervous System. Each student was responsible for researching their topic, creating a card to inform their classmates about it and make a model that shows what it would look like inside the body.

Girls Basketball will not have a JV game tonight at Wonewoc-Center. They will play Varsity only at 7:00 PM.

"Students in 8th grade Spanish class learned about alebrijes, mythical creatures from Mexico. Alebrijes are often a combination of animals, and are covered in bright colors and creative designs. Each student designed and built their own alebrije and described the animals and colors they used in Spanish!"

Traffic Flow Update The concrete will be poured for our new weight room and locker room floors in front of the MS/HS on Friday of this week and next week on Monday and Tuesday. This is a lengthy process and will require multiple extra vehicles in our front drive during morning drop-off times. For this reason, through traffic in front of the MS/HS will be limited to buses only on Friday, Monday, and Wednesday. Please plan accordingly and allow the space needed for progress to continue on our construction projects!

Our Wrestling Seniors were honored Tuesday night by all people attending the meet that were involved past or present with the wrestling program. Congratulations Seniors.

February Harvest of the Month is Chili!

Mrs. Adams’ Physics class just started to study momentum and impulse. They spent their first class with an egg drop challenge. Can you protect your egg with 5 sheets of paper, 20 straws, 1 m of tape and 2 zipper bags? This is the before picture of their eggs, unfortunately there were casualties during their first attempt. Look for an updated post after we spend some time learning about these new concepts.

Kiota and Patti visited our Mindfulness & Mental Health class today to talk about the mental health benefits of therapy pets. We learned that Kiota means visitor and that therapy pets may reduce anxiety, depression and blood pressure. Thank you Patti & Kiota!

The 8th Grade Agriculture class recently wrapped up their unit on Agritourism and Agriculture Literacy. Agritourism is a form of tourism where visitors engage in activities related to agriculture, farming, or rural life. It usually involves farm tours, engaging activities, agricultural education, and more! Agricultural literacy is the knowledge, understanding, awareness, and appreciation of agriculture. Students had the opportunity to meet with Bret Miller, owner of Hidden Trails Corn Maze in West Salem. Bret was able to share some valuable information with students about his family owned operation including the awesome fact that their farm has been in the family for over 120 years! Hidden Trails Corn Maze has been operating since 1998, making them one of the longest operating mazes in the state. Make sure to check them out come September! Congratulations to Sophomore Yolanda Nolan and 6th grader Wendy Vang for receiving Honorable Mention for the 2024 Youth Art Month Flag design contest. Over 200 students from around WI entered the design contest. One winner was selected and 12 honorable mentions. Students will be recognized at the State Art Showcase in Madison at East Towne Mall on Friday, March 22nd, 2024.
